Pedersoli pistol kit

Bought a pistol kit form Dixie wanted something to mess around with. Didn't like the lock so I did some file work on it also did some work on the side plate to.Filed all the book off the barrel and browned it. Poured a pewter nose cap and made a tapered ramrod for it. Got some different sights form Track.It ain't the prettiest in the world but I think it looks better. What y'all think? I haven't shot it yet maybe this weekend.

Looks good Mike. I like the nose cap. The bottom of the lock plate panel could’ve used a similar sweep as the lock side, to accentuate the bottom of the side plate, but that’s picking nits. Love it. Now to get some patina on it..l.

Thanks Bob I agree that more wood could come off the bottom. The way the trigger was made it limited the amount of wood I could remove and still use the tigger provided. One thing I have thought about is to fill in the factory inlet with a scrape piece of walnut and order another trigger. May do that in the future but I am impatient an what make it go BOOM!😁

Couple years back I built a Pedersoli "Bounty" pistol - with a 16 3/8" barrel!  Went together nicely, but yep, had a lot of extra wood on it.  As I recall, I checkered part of the fore-end, as it was so long that it was easy to use both hands on it.  .45 cal percussion.  I'd like to try again with a good flintlock instead.  Excellent shooter.  10 rounds in a 3" circle at 25 yards.

 Looks good, how'd it shoot. Hope it wasn't as cold there today as it is here, I believe a spit patch would freeze in the bore here today.

Is that an extra pin in the stock, like you put a lug on the barrel?

 Tim got to shoot it a little this afternoon. It seams to be reliable. But I need a lot of practice to hit the target! It was a steamy high of 38 today.

Jim I did add a lug and pin when I did away with the factory nose cap it had a screw in it that was the second anchor point for the barrel.

This is one of the main reasons I'm going to take my Pedersoli kit pistol and rebuild it. How did you attach the lug for the pin? Solder it on? I like that poured cap too. That is a nice touch.

I made a lug out of piece of an old brass door kick plate. To attach it to the barrel I dove tailed it in.

I did a dovetail on a .50 and on a .54 I did two 3/32 pins drilled in about 1/2-3/4 the cut the pin of flush with the wood.
Just don't run into the pipe pins and take it slow,I did mine with a hand drill.

Funny how people think I did the same pins to hold the pewter cap. Got any pictures of the finished product? Would like to see them.

Nice work guys. Thanks for the tips. If I end up not restocking my parts or that doesn't work out, I may just copy what you've done here and modify my existing stock. I actually lost my nose cap from mine at some point because of the poor barrel retention system they use. That's the pistol I'm shooting in my avatar. Mine shoots great at about 20 yards. I managed a shot pretty much dead center at 75 yards a few weeks ago, but that was pretty much all luck.
