Jaeger multi leaf rear sight question
« on: April 11, 2020, 05:48:50 PM »
Are the individual leafs of a Jaeger rear sight supposed to lock in the up position when being used?  The leafs on my sight do not stay in the upright position when flipped up, and this is disconcerting when the gun is carried afield and a quick shot presents itself.

I have owned a couple of guns with those sights and never carried them with the higher flip up blades up, only the solid lower one then if I encountered a shot that needed more elevation I could raise up the one I thought would work best

Exactly as smylee grouch noted.
I have not seen a Jaeger with folding leaves, having an internal spring to hold them up.
The English sights usually had internal (underlying) spring to hold the leaf up against jarring
but of course, bumping or brushing the leaf would usually make it fold.

I had a similar problem with my rear sight, I fixed it by removing the pivot pin and putting a slight kink in it. This created enough friction to hold the leaf in position, either up or down.  Sounds a bit crude, but it works and was a simple thing to do.

Jteam:  that sounds like a good solution to my problem.  How did you put the "kink"in the pin?

Was a few years ago but I probably just held it halfway in a vice and tapped it with a hammer.

I'll give it a try.
