A Bit Outside The Relm Maybe ???
« on: March 10, 2020, 10:37:56 PM »

Many cultures had/have water monsters or creatures that came in various forms and many names. Cetus, Greek, Champ,  Lake Champlain, Chessie, Chesapeake Bay, The Loch Ness Monster, etc…
This is taken from a known Southern Plains Indian quirt in the shape of a water monster of sort. The carved handle is Hickory,  15” long, decorated with 14 Brass tacks.  The lash is 23” long wrapped with Wool held in place with rawhide and sinew. The wrist strap at the tail is braided leather. Overall it is about 37" not counting the wrist strap.

Looks more like a loon's head and neck than a sea monster.

We must be drinking the same water. I'm finishing up a Plains Indian horse mirror right now. Nice looking quirt.

Yup, Gator Gar fits the bill for that one.  Neato!  And well-done.

Hate that the hydro dams ruined their habitat in much of the South. They still go 7' and longer in Texas.  Can't miss the time-period for those critters.
