With everyone figuring out how to cope with the Stay in Place regulations, I thought I'd give you some ideas on forging material and things to due especially for guys & gals that may be just starting to forge.
Free Material...
Old rusty springs are my favorite material to forge. The more rusty & pitted the better. Pick up from dumps, old auto yards, and just out in a farmers field.
Extremely Pitted Spring (nobody would want)...
This forged knife came from a piece of those springs and it sold to a CEO of a big investment firm back in Boston. Knife was essentially free. The pitting just gave it more contrast.
I'm lucky to have some friends that are exceptional Bladesmiths. Here is a piece of Birds Eye Damascus a friend gave me. Need to finish this one up but because I didn't make it that's hard for me. I make Damascus but mine is just random design and I hate the way the flux gums up my forge. Anyway look around, you never know where you'll find the next master piece. Have fun forging...tippit
