Banded horn and pouch
« on: August 03, 2009, 04:31:44 AM »
OK, between Randy's prodding for people to post, Acer's tutorial on posting photos, and me finally getting off my behind and getting a Photobucket account, here's my interpretation of a southern banded horn and a simple one compartment hunting pouch.

I made these to go along with a rifle I made for my father-in-law. He currently lives in Georgia, but the family is from NC and WV so I figured the southern theme was appropriate.

I hope they show up well (actually, I hope they show up, period - I'm not the most computer savvy guy out there!). The plug is maple, and the bands are applied and fastened with iron pins. I did a little aging - showing some use, but not antiquing. The lighter brown piece on the right side of the bag is actually a bullet board hanging outside the pouch.

I hope to eventually take up scrimshaw, but that's for the future!

Eric,

Great looking bag and horn combo, your father-in-law should be proud to carry those anywhere.

Eric, great looking combo!  Making the banded horns are alot of fun to echo Tim's sentiment.

Thanks for the compliments, guys. You're right, it was fun making the banded horn - I had just gotten a lathe and the shaping cone and plug for this horn were the first things I made on it.

The horn and the bag go well together.  There are a lot of nice horns out there.  There are a lot of nice bags.  There are also a lot of horn and bag sets, unfortunately, not all bags and horns make good sets.  You were able to marry a horn and bag together and have them compliment each other.  Splendid job.
