Where to get 1"acf x 60-62 cal longrilfe barrell?
« on: May 27, 2020, 03:18:24 AM »
Hi yall, any idea where I can get such a barrell? I seen a couple of em years ago. I am wanting to build a flinter so I am not concerned about too much breech pressure from a patent breech percussion/ Thanks to all. Best regards, Dave F 8) 8)

Rice makes 62 straight 1" barrels.

Thanks bro. I knew I had seen them somewhere. I like big bores  and the lighter I can get em the better. Not 45 anymore. Appreciate ya. Dave 8) 8)

100 grains of 3fg in a patent breech caplock will generate the same pressure as
that same charge in a barrel breeched with an drum and nipple and the only variance
might be in the exhaust or ejecta thru the flash hole in the flintlock and that may not
change much if the vent has a small hole as made with a #51 drill.

Hi Bob. I didn't think so either. Thanks for your response to my PM.
I most likely will use a flint patent breech plug with tang for this one. I am not figgering on shooting more than 80-90 g 2f.Thanks for the wisdom. Dave 8) 8)

80 to 90gr. 2F is easy, low pressure in anything .50 and above. The service load for the .577 Enfields, including the little musketon was
 3 1/4 drams with 560gr. Pritchett bullet. That's 88.7gr.

Plan all your dovetails, and barrel lugs, or staples very carefully. I’m building a .62x1’’ barreled left handed Percussion Steven O’Dell plains rifle for my nephew, and to be quite honest the barrel staples are making me kinda nervous. I’m sure they will be fine, but there really is little room for error.

My concerns exactly, HH. I rather work in thicker metal. If I were going to go ahead with this, I believe I would solder them on.
Good luck on your build.
Just curious, why you going 62 instead if 54/58? Have a goodun, Dave F 8) 8)

I tried to blow up a 1x33x62 GRRW barrel with patent breech installed and a visible internal defect halfway down the tube. Loaded several hundred grains of ffg and packed the rest of the barrel with dirt. Placed the barrel in a deep gulley lit the fuse and ran. I watched from a safe distance and the only result was a thunderclap accompied by a huge cloud of smoke and dust! Still have the barrel and still can't find any damage from the test.

I built  a rifle a couple years ago with a swamped barrel from Rice. It had a 1" breach and was .60 caliber it's not a production barrel though. I don't know what charge Tim uses but he smacks hogs with it. I was shooting 90 grs of ffg and there were no problems using that charge.
