Just finished this fowler. Getz 14 bore barrel, English walnut blank from Goby, Chambers lock BP, TG, everything else shop made.

Beautiful! Nice figure in that walnut. How much cast did you put in the stock? The front sight is interesting. Is it reccessed into the barrel?

Love that gun! The spider sight is wonderful. The lock lettering is superb.
What type of stain and finish did you end up with?

The figure of the wood really catches the eye. And I like the engraving on the trigger guard. The front sight really puts a nice touch to the barrel. Awesome gun!

I really like English fowlers and this is a nice one.
I suppose I should make another one for turkey hunting. If I hunted turkeys...

Which I really need to get started on.
They certainly did you proud with the wood.

Nice fowler. I have one that is in the wings that Dave Rase set in the barrel for me on a nice piece of English Walnut from Ron Scott and this one makes me want to jump in on starting that project. What did you do to fill your grain? I think you did a great job on the finishing, Keep up the good work.

Yeah and several other places. Can use a rifle in the fall. I have a 40 cal but its a *@&%#^$ (read as doggone) percussion.
I need to put some feelers out. They are reaching pest levels someplaces north of town.

Very nice fowler. Always thought the 14 a great gauge as its trimmer than a 12 and will do about as much. Roundball is lighter also. Good luck with it and have fun.

Don, finally got around to using the barrel you talked me into at Daniel Morgan almost 20 years ago!
Dpharris, I need to get started on the turkeys too! Lots of them and doves are about it for hunting around here.
Barrel is 42". The front sight is made of sheet brass, riveted together and soldered to the barrel.
Dave B David Rase did this barrel for me as well and did a great job. I used Constantines black filler and Chambers oil on the stock, no stain. I got lucky with the wood, I got it from Gary Goby before he sold the business.

That was a great shoot. I used to go every year and camped with Jim Hash. I don't know if they still have that shoot or not. Thought I heard the farm got sold or something like that. Do you remember Wandy Weeks Wound Wall Wagon?

Yes I do. I used to shoot up a Randy's a lot too. I don't think they have the Apple Blossom shoot any more, to bad it was a good season opener.
