Take a look at one. It pretty much looks like all of the others. Some have more bling. Colors can be different. They are a nice place to start.

I've assembled and finished three. Two were maple and one was cherry.

Taylor - there's nothing "plane" about that maple - it's just a thing of beauty ;)!

I ordered dead plain furniture grade palat maple, and this is what Jim sent.  He said the stock was a second, had a flaw, which I remedied so this is the result.  I agree...I've never had a piece with such consistent vibrant curl (figure).  I got the most out of the curl using tannic acid and Ferric Nitrate, per Jim's method.

Thanks everybody.  You've all shown some beautiful rifles.  This rifle was good with the Chambers lock, but is even better with our new lock.   At least in my opinion ;)  Our new lock is super smooth, extremely fast (more on this to come), sparks like nobody's business, is easy on flints and a little more historically correct for this rifle.  It's just a little smaller (4.75") and looks perfect on this rifle.  I mentioned in another post that after putting a kit together with this new lock I measured the front trigger pull UNSET.  It was less than 3 lbs.  Pretty fantastic in my view given the inherent poor geometry of an unset, double set trigger.  This a testament to the lock design and construction.

Anyways, enough rambling.  Thanks for sharing all of your nice rifles and thanks for the great feedback.

All the best,
Jim

Chowmi, is this one of the new locks on that SMR, the lock pannel looks just a tad longer.

Has anyone received a SMR with one of Jim’s new locks in the kit yet? I’m still waiting for mine to be delivered but it has to be close and I can’t help but to hope I get one of his locks :)
I’m not putting down the previous lock I know it was wonderful.
