How to clean up deer horn

My grandson found a deer shed antler and asked me to make him a knife
Need to brighten the antler

 Sand it then buff it, you can get a high shine on it if you want. I prefer about 320, followed by 0000 steel wool and wax of some sort. Files and rasps can also be used if you want.
