Ken Guy Rifle
« on: October 21, 2008, 06:28:12 AM »
Ken Guy has a very nice rifle on Contemproary Makers site.  Ken, is this the one that was at the ALR meeting at CLA?  It really turned out great.  I especially like the finish you applied.

Larry,
It's the same rifle.  The stock was stained using Jim Klein's staining method.  Staining the entire stock pumkin orange to begin with and then brown over the top of that.  Then burnished and fnished with several coats of tung oil.
Cheers,
Ken

Dave,
I use Danglers stain.  It is just listed as orange I think but it is bright orange.  You will cringe when you first start putting it on.  The browns I used are the medium/golden and dark brown.  The dark brown is selectively applied to areas of less wear.
Cheers,
Ken

Acer,
We are talking about the contemporary blog spot that Art and Jan Riser do.  They post new works everyday.

Ahhh! Now I see it! Fantastic, Ken. You photos really show the finish and color to advantage.
This is a neat site, by the way. Classy. It looks like I could do all my Christmas shopping right there.

Ken, where can you get the Homer Dangler stains?  I searched and found some companies that carry the brown but I have been unable to find the orange.  Thanks and cheers.

I bought mine from Jim Klein at Friendship but Suzzie @ Muzzleloader builder's Supply sells Danglers products.  Sometimes companies don't show it in their cataloge if they don't sell a lot of it.  She's a member of the board.  Maybe she will confim she carries the orange.

At the moment I don't have the orange. I will give the makers a call and see if I can get this color. I didn't even know they had this one! By the way Ken, I'm impressed; really good workmanship on a nice piece of wood. And Thanks for your order the other day! Yall are great folks! If anybody else wants this orange let me know so I can order it all at once.
