Inletting Mistake
« on: December 02, 2020, 01:09:23 AM »
All,
When inletting the rear portion of this trigger guard, the underside was a bit thicker on one side than the other. As a relative novice, I didn’t think at the time it would affect the outcome of the inlet, but as you can see, it did. One side of the guard is inletted to correct depth while the other is below the surface of the wood. My thought is to try and fill the inlet and screw hole with scrap and a dowel, fix the underside of the guard and do it over, but I thought I would see if anyone here has a different suggestion?

Thanks in advance.
Jay

It’s very possible that your casting came out with an ever so slight twist. Check that first. It’s not uncommon. If it’s steel I would advise heating it before trying to bend it into a proper position. You might be able to just bend it at the rear of the grip spur. Be careful. That cast steel will sometimes break if you try to bend it cold. No big deal bro. You’ve got this!!
