Schreit rilfe by Dennis Mulford.
« on: September 15, 2020, 05:09:43 PM »
I was digging around in the safe today and found this one.  I took some pictures before I put it back.  It was built by Dennis Mulford in 1985.  I don't know the history, but it still looks like it just came off the bench.  .54cal. with a 43" swamped barrel.  Davis lock.  I remember seeing it in a book or magazine many years ago, but I can't remember where.  Any ideas.

Pretty good work for a meat cutter. I remember seeing his cataloge back in the early 80's. his prices started at 3K. Might have well been a million when you're makin $4.50/hr.... :P

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Wow!  Nice gun.  Must be nice to "find" something like this in ur safe.  Must be a huge safe or cluttered with guns.  Amazing.

Not a big safe.  I just don't look in it often enough.  That way you can have a "free" new rifle by finding one you haven't seen for a while.   ;)

I have more rifles than I can shoot, and when I take one out that has been languishing for some time, it usually tells me so by shooting poorly.  That's likely why that rifle is in such pristine condition...it doesn't get out much.  Shameful, as it's a nice rifle that deserves to be shot a lot more.  Unused rifles can get a serious pout on.

I first saw this rifle in the late 80s.  It was in a publication of some type.  Maybe Muzzleloader Mag.  A few years ago it came up for sale on Guns International from Joe Williams Gun Works Emporium.  So, I called Joe and made the deal.  Shazam!!  After 30yrs. it was mine.  It has been shot enough by me and others to wear the brown from around the touch-hole, but no one has hurt it.  There are more pics on my blog www.bricestultzhisblog.blogspot.com in July 2016.
