A Couple More Snuff Boxes
« on: August 21, 2020, 06:15:21 PM »
These are the last ones, fun at first but kind of anticlimactic. The Black one is Maple with a Tim bottom held by Brass tacks. It is about 3 X 1 1/2". Carla painted the other, I hoping to liven it up a bit, it has a horn body and a Brass bottom held by iron nails. It is about 3 X 1".

Makes me want to go back to chewing again. Only took 40 years to kick the habit this year.

They both look super Tim.  One understated....one matches my horn.   :-)

I want to see how those go together.  Does the underneath lid rotate only?

The top rotates, in this pic you can see the pivot pin that goes through both the top of the box and the lid. The top is pinned to the horn and the bent pin holds the whole thing together so the lib turns.

Tim those really look nice.  I especially like the painted one.  Not to stir up trouble or anything, but if you could make one with a threaded top or bottom, for re-filling...that would just be the cat’s pajamas... :o

I know, Bob...I just think making one a “screw top” would be all kinds of cool. I might be able to cut the interior/exterior threads on my old Southbend...it would be a piece of cake for a real machinist... :o

For those who have limited skills (like me) here is another way to carry the chew around. You can buy the tins almost anywhere. If I had my druthers I would wait until one of the wood ones come up for sale.

It would be very cool indeed. I’m going to use the two for either pipe tobacco or for snuff whichever works better.

Bob: Did you talk Tim out of those two he posted pictures of? If so not sure you will get the sticks and stems of Levi Garrett in and out but Copenhagen long cut would work fine. Years of experience on both has taught me this.

I did. He made them for me. I only use Snuff and Longcut so either should work fine. The one Carla painted is for my display but the black one will go in the bag. I may use it for my pipe tobacco. Squadron Leader should settle in their fine too.

Tim,
Your accoutrements are first rate all the way but Carla sure knows how to dress them for the party.

Boxes arrived safely Tim, beautiful work as usual, particularly Carlas painting. Actually that black box might be perfect for musket caps for a new percussion rifle I just picked up...an outside the box box....

Good deal, I'm glad it's gonna get used.
