Deer Antler Powder Measure..
« on: August 19, 2009, 01:24:38 AM »
I never knew i had a crafting bone in my body, but i think i may be getting good at this.  ;D  I just completed the carving on my 2nd horn, so while waiting to decide what i'am going to scrim on the horn, i made this powder measure. As mentioned, its a deer antler that i picked up at a flea market that someone had hollowed out. I cut & carved a piece of hickory to plug the end and I bored out the inside diameter to measure exactly 70 grains of 3f. I then dyed & aged it to match my powder horn. Anyway, i thought i'd show it off...  ;)

Thank's for looking.

Danny...

Ok I'll ask since I suppose I live far enough away from you so I'm safe__ ::)how do you get that filled measure to the rifle/gun muzzle w/o flopping that nice horn around? ??? :)

Hmmmm, looks like a logistical dilemma. ;D  Good job 'bout the antler piece into a measure.

;D  :D Being that i'am the gentle giant type, you could've asked me that anywhere and i'd gladly answer your questions...  :)

My "Lancaster" is 54" in overall length, and i wear my horn high on the left side... :P...so it should work, but if not there will be no problem making a new longer laynard.. ;)

Also i took some better pictures of my horn, so "Tim" here ya go and thank you for your comments, i am very proud of this horn, it being my first one from scratch:

 Thanks Danny for the pics.

Thanks Randy I needed that. $#*! I can walk from one side of the shop to the other and forget what I was looking for. For that very reason I now have two or three projects going at once so if I forget what I am looking for or doing I just pick up anther project and move on. So much for short term memory.:)
