I.D. Needed for strange replica knife
« on: September 20, 2020, 06:49:42 PM »
My wife got this for me at a local sale. It looks like a scalping pattern. It’s not forged but looks like it’s sheared or stamped then ground a little to bevel the edge. Tang is simply jammed into a hole in the handle that has a thin brass ferrule . The carvings on the handle are what interest me. Incised are what look to me to be two Indian chiefs. That makes me suspect it may be a replica type souvenir knife maybe sold through someplace like Dixie or something? I’m hoping someone here may have seen one similar or have some better ideas. Thanks in advance.
TC

I've got nothing to offer on the knife Tim, but Bonnie found a keeper there.  Sure would be great to know.  James Levy

I have nothing concrete to base my opinion on, but the knife has a european trade look to it. My first impression of the handle carving is South Pacific. Mabey came back this way on a tramp steamer or a whaleship or a WW2 pickup.

Polynesian Islands.  I have the identical knife no sheath.  Probably old souvenir knife.
