Horn Guys ..ID Help !

Just wondering if any of you horn makers can tell me what I have here. I know nothing about horns...can’t tell  the difference between a 60.00 horn or 400.00 horn. Or know nothing about time periods of horns. I shoot a .62 cal Tulle Smoothbore....and was hoping this horn ..kinda matches my Tulle...any comment would be welcome. Also what do the bands mean on a horn...?

I agree, send him an email with a photo and ask him. He ID'ed one for me.
Probably has his Mark's somewhere, forget what it is but small.

  I'm gonna take a shot at your question on bands; if a horn is worn long enough and rubs against a bag, your body, saddle,etc...a hole will be worn in it or it will become very thin. If a band is put on at about the middle or ware area it wares before the horn. The earliest I have seen is from just before the Rev war, not so say the band could have been added later. My thinking is that over the years more bands were added more for decoration that function. Most are seen with Southern origin but bands were being placed at the butt of horns in Philadelphia early on, c1755, I'm thinking they were more for decoration.

Yes it is a Sibley horn....but looking to see if it mates up (time period ) with my 62 cal Tulle. And thanks for the info on the “Bands” .  Iam still new to all the horn stuff....but it’s very interesting.

Horns last a long time. Even in 1741. That horn could have believably been working in 1841.  Just thinking out loud.  I’d say use it and enjoy it.  God bless, Marc
