Bresein [sp? ] barrels
« on: August 20, 2009, 06:13:49 AM »
I just was given a barrel in .54 cal, 1 in across the flats, 34 in long which is marked and supposedly made by the above named fellow.  Looks like a good candidate for a plains rifle. Rifling looks to be good, but the outside is rusted.
Has anyone heard of these ? I haven't seen any before.

Ken Bresein is known for his bench rest barrels, real good ones. If the inside is good you might have a gem.
Don Getz might be able to shed more light on this

He made outstanding barrels for cross stick guns and bench guns. A lot of the best shots here in Texas used his stuff and won with it. I would not be surprised if yours is a gem as well.

Ken made some of the best  barrels. He had a Pratt and WHitney rifling machine, and made some of the best barrels for slug and cartridge I know of. Now retired.

Check the twist on your bbl...it might be for slug or bullet.

A friend of mine has a Hi-Wall with a Bresien bbl in 38 Herret and shot a record 5X group at 200 yds at the ASSRA match a couple of years ago.
