What To Use For Inletting Black On Walnut?

 Now that I have finished the inletting using soot, which is extremely had to see on Walnut I ask the question. I cheated and painted the areas with White paint.
 Hopefully the answers will help someone else.

  Tim I'm no expert builder. But I have used bright color lipstick.
It stands out on dark wood real well. Or a real brite colored magic marker.  JM2C. ..Oldtravler

I agree.  I have ever only used inletting blue.

 I second the bright lipstick. Red shows up pretty well on walnut. I use either soot or lipstick on maple also. Less messy than inletting black.

I use the Inletting Gold from track...https://www.trackofthewolf.com/Categories/PartDetail.aspx/377/1/INLET-GOLD   Actually it's what I use on everything including maple. I find that it's much neater/cleaner than anything else I've ever used. I apply it sparingly with a small brush.

The local NAPA auto parts store is where I've always gotten Prussian blue.

Red or blue sharpie marker. I find these a lot less messy than soot or inletting black. The blue shows up good on both walnut and maple. Cleans up easily from hands and metal with a rag dampened with alcohol.

I use anti sieze compound that pematex sells. IT is silver in color from powdered aluiminum in the compound. I use prushian blue on maple

Jarrows, the same company that makes inletting black makes inletting gold for dark colored woods.

 Thanks for the ideas, I am color blind so Red is out but Yellow may work. I would think lipstick would be oily and hard to remove once in the wood. Still gonna need something foe the triggers and guard, I will look for the Blue or order the Gold.

Sharpie marker comes in silver too.  I mostly  use the extra large "magnum" Sharpies.  I now avoid any greasy stuff, it makes too much of a mess.

Same here, love it and use it on maple, cherry and walnut. NAPA Carries it. Very low price and a small tube lasts a looooong time. Like Robin use very lightly.

Seems to transfer better for me than a Sharpie.

I don't get much if any on my fingers and if I do it seems to wash easily.
