Been a while, here’s some new work. I tried to include pictures that show how it’s all made if that helps anybody. Materials include hair on deer hide I shot and tanned myself, some vegetable tanned goat hide and cowhide.

 That's a Beauty Eric, I have always been partial to the doubles. The fact that you killed and tanned it makes it even cooler. Two hundred years ago "Capital" may have been the word :)

Eric!

Thanks for giving me another project to puzzle over!  You guys are always throwing out something that distracts me from anything I am currently working on...  And, it's a good thing you did post all the pictures showing the details - I could easily have worn all the hair off of this pouch if I had a chance to look it over in person! 

When you folks do a project with a hair-on-hide, do you trim back (or shave? ;-) the hair before doing any of the stitching on any of the overlaying parts?

Other people might but I don’t.
I’m generally careful not to pull any hairs through the holes, occasionally some get through. I have found that deer hair is long enough to pull back through if you catch it in time, and calf hair is usually short enough that it’s not a problem...as long as I’m paying attention. There have been times when I had to go back and trim a hair or two off.
What bears more consideration though is the hair around the binding, as in do you want to trim it or not, and how much and how. Sometimes I’m finding myself feeling like some weird type of barber.

That is a delightful bag Eric.  I especially like the details like the rear edging on the body wrapping over to cover the transition to the front edging.  Someone will be very happy to get this bag.  Well done sir, very well done indeed.   God Bless,   Marc
