My New project...
« on: December 05, 2020, 10:05:05 PM »
Well decided to do something. So started this sorta Soddy.
38 cal FCI barrel. Late Chamber's Ketland lock. Basic maple stock. Barrel was inserted by Dennis Priddy. Not sure if I will use the butt plate an trigger guard yet... Stock needs a little wood taken off....  Oldtravler

I'll be paying close attention as I am planning just such a rifle.

Good for you Mike, let her rip buddy. I don't think that butt plate will work for a true Soddy rifle unless you can modify it some. A true Soddy rifle has a diamond kinda shape to the butt stock and wrist area which is reflected in the butt plate.

Mike, looks like it’s time to fire up your Stihl and make some chips fly!  I’ve been thinking about one of those FCI .38’s myself...

Well I'm getting ready to butcher the stock layout. The gun hopefully will be as accurate as I can. When I get it done...with a lot of good advice. Then when I show it to Jack he won't pass out from shock. Wondering what it actually is that I tried to make....lol
By the way I have NO intentions of starting a gun building career...I'm like Jack that way. Make one an someone likes it fine... I'll sell it,  an move on to the next project. I have a bear pistol I want to build next...It's all Charlie Burton's fault. He had the barrel at the Fall Frolic...
By the way any an all advice mucho appreciated.. Oldtravler

Jim, I sent him some good pics of my Duprey Soddy's butt plate. It's an eyeopener if you've never studied one and think it's just another butt plate.

Yes Bob, the Soddy rifle is a totally different animal compared to the rest of what is thought of as a Southern Mountain Rifle. I am sure that Jack did a bang up job for you.
