My "New" Krider Rifle

This rifle from John Krider's has Krider markings on the barrel, lock, and patch box and some nice scroll engraving on the breech, lock, and patch box as well. It is roughly .47 caliber. It was sold to me as a shootable antique. I was able to get it out to the range once so far, and it does still shoot remarkably well with a .465 caliber ball and thin patch considering its age and worn bore which might need some smoothing out.

I really like that rifle.   Reminds me of one I used to own just like it!

I used .015 patches with it.

Haha yeah hard to do a full shot without a lot of the brush showing. This wasn’t a planned photo shoot just quick snaps while shooting it.

I’ve enjoyed it thoroughly so far. Thanks! I’m using .015 patches currently as well. I need to get a stiff range rod. I purchased a delrin rod not realizing it was going to be as floppy as a wet noodle.

Quite a few people up here use those Noodle Rods. I've been able to resist that temptation, though.

Get yourself a good range rod from Rice Barrel, located in NC.  I have  handful of them for various calibers.

I'll have to check those range rods out. I have a plain steel rod, the wooded ramrod below the barrel that I don't actually intend to use, and two floppy synthetic rods. You'd think they'd warn you that they are super floppy. Its not exactly fun to ram home a tightly patched ball with a rod that bends when you apply pressure. The floppy rods work fine for cleaning, so I will probably just keep them and use them for that purpose.

Rice has a screw-on black ball handle, made from a high-impact plastic.  I find them very comfortable.
