Another O/U Mule Ear
« on: April 30, 2023, 05:23:16 PM »
With maudite's recent post of a Michigan made O/U mule ear, attached are some photos of a O/U mule ear by New York maker William Roberts, Dansville, N.Y.  Barrels are 29" long, .34 cal. over a .28 ga. with an overall length of 43 3/4".
The lock plate is marked "1857 No. 28" with the hammers marked "W. Roberts/Dansville, N.Y. The top of the barrel is also marked "W. Roberts/Dansville, N.Y./1857 No.28".
As can be seen, this gun was used, but pretty well cared for.

Another nice mule ear over under.! Swinney recognizes this specific gun on page 1401. Note that William Roberts apparently started new serial numbering at the beginning of each year, rather than keeping a consecutive serial number through all years as most gun makers did
