I just finished staining my Kibler colonial rifle with a walnut stain from laurel mountain and I have one spot near the entry thimble that is darker than the rest of the stock. what is the best way to lighten that area so it matches the rest of the stock.

Natural variations in the wood are to be expected and if we’re mine I doubt that I would do anything about it. If you so choose, you could rub it back with some 0000 steel wool or scotch brite .
