Maker of long smoothbore barrels?
« on: November 11, 2020, 05:56:49 AM »
There’s an outfit offering long (46” and longer) smoothbore barrels recently. Not Charles Burton, Ed Rayl, Bobby Hoyt, Rice, and so on. I recall seeing their barrels on a back table at CLA about 2-3 years ago. Ring a bell?

And these are made of what material?

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

I've got a fusil made by John Donelson. He mentioned that the barrel was made by a machinist friend over in Mi. The barrel is 52.5" long, made from DOM steel. It's a good barrel. I can do a 6" group offhand at 60+ yards. If this is the same person as previously mentioned, I can highly recommend him.

I have a scaled down punt gun with a "one off" 72" barrel. The maker will remain unknown, but to me, as he doesn't want to do another.
