Brunk Auctions in Asheville, N.C. is selling an early Jamestown School Longrifle this Saturday. This is a full-stock, flintlock, twisted-star patchbox rifle signed by Isaac Jones of Jamestown, N.C.
He was born in 1797. When he was orphaned in 1811, the Guilford County court bound him to local gunsmith Craft Jackson to "learn the art and mystery of a gunsmith." He finished his apprenticeship in 1818. He purchased some land on Deep River near Jamestown and built a house and gun shop he used until 1838 when he sold out and moved to Indiana.
This is one of only seven known signed patchbox rifles by this early maker.
