Fowler Buttplate

I have this buttplate for a blunderbuss build.  I'm looking for help on what to do with the hooked tang on top of the plate.  What do you do with this?  Thanks in advance for the help!

You make a slot for it to move forward and down as you inlet the plate. When the buttplate is all inlet, you can put a wood screw just forward of it so the hook slides under the screw head. It holds the  finial down. You can also use a cross pin.

Check out Smart Dog's tutorial on building a historically correct fowler under Miscellaneous Tutorials.   The hook is for a staple.  This video by Clay Smith should explain everything you need to know.
