1841 Ordnance Manual

In a previous post I mentioned the 1850 Ordnance Manual. The first U.S. Ordnance Dept. Manual was printed in 1841. 90% of it was copied from a French manual. Shown below is the title page and Table of Contents pages. Anyone who has any interest in the early U.S. Army would probably find something of interest in the manual which can be found online, like everything else in this universe.

I love those old ordnance manuals. I need to see if I have the 1841 copy.

The drawings, especially in the artillery section are amazing for their detail, down to harnessing the horses.

I love the section on the manufacture of small arms ammunition. By the 1849 Ordnance manual they list tumbling the musket balls. Now I get to see if they mention this practice in the 1841.
