Can anyone ID this maker?
« on: November 28, 2020, 06:08:56 PM »
A friend of mine sent me these two photo's asking if I recognized the initials of the maker. These are the only two photos he has. Hope to have more later. Note the small c under the M, maybe last name is Mc? ?. Also note the serial number 200 which could indicate this was his 200th rifle. My friend, experienced longrifle builder/shooter etc said it appears to have been made 1960 - 1970's.

Yes, a pic of two of lock and triggers would help.  The overall view, and sideplate shot of wood grain and color, sideplate and shaping at breech remind me of Dixie's Southern Mtn Rifle = but no offense intended!

Will see what we can do, my friend does not own the rifle but has limited access to it.
I would doubt Dixie would've had that signature (might be wrong).

My friend said he thought it was a Siler lock and the barrel likely a Douglas. He would have to disassemble to know more.

Here is another photo:

That number could be a date code.  Rifle #7 in 2000 or, as Mark said,he is a really prolific builder or maybe a re-used barrel.

My friend says the number is 0200. If you enlarge the photo it looks like a 2 but it's not very clear.

Also enlarge first photo and you can see it has forestock mouldings. Also some curl in the forestock.
