What kind of solution do you have the barrel soaking in?

Runar, you get some mighty interesting projects!  I may have to move to northern Europe to experience one or two of those.

Was there powder behind that ball bearing?  Being a bit lighter than a lead ball, it probably would have higher velocity.

Please keep us posted on this challenging pistol.  Great design.

Hi all, and thank you Craig Wilcox! This pistol is one of the best I have seen so long in this model, exsept all the dirt/rust the lock is not much used. But the hammer jaw screw was broken off long time ago, and sometime one have drilled in a smaller screw in the stud and made a simple jaw so I must made new screw and jaw. Maby someone set the ball bearing as a deactivating long time ago?And the wery dry stock drink stockoil like a drunken saylor ;)

You made me laugh, Runar.  A time or five in my life I was one of those drunken sailors!

Back in '66 when my A-4 attack squadron went to Vietnam, you would think that, being based in California, we would board an aircraft carrier in San Francisco or San Diego, but NO!  We had to fly our stuff to Norfolk, Virginia, then sail the carrier across the Atlantic, across the Med, through the Suez Canal to the Red Sea, then Indian Ocean, etc., until we reached south-east Asia.  And come back the same way.  Out at sea for 60 to 98 days, yeah, I did become a drunken sailor.

That pistol, except for the corrosion, really looks in fair shape for almost 250 years old.  And knowing your work, it probably won't be much older before you re-finish the stock, and remove all the corrosion from the lock and barrel.  Shame about the top jaw and screw, but I have confidence it will not take you too long to make new ones for the pistol.

Will you be able to test fire it there in Norway?  I am not familiar with the Norwegian laws concerning antique muzzle loading firearms.  Keep us posted, as usual.

Runar,That notch in the breechplug face doesn't appear to have hurt anything! I assume it was already there.

Yes, I was surprised that there was not more erosion if original to the gun.

Nice. Your scratch - built pistol is even more impressive when you can lay it next to the original and see how close a match it is. Very cool.

I think Runar should pack up some of his tools, and come teach classes for we folks to improve our building/repairing skills.

Every posting that Runar makes demonstrates skill beyond the average, and I, for one, would gladly pay to take a few classes in "how to do it".
