Renaissance wax

So I have finished my rifle with the 6th coat of tried and true oil drying as we speak. I have read a lot of comments on here about it being a soft finish. I have a can of Renaissance wax a purchased some time ago for a project I never finished. I have never used it but have heard it is a hard finish. Anybody have experience with it on a oil varnished wood stock? If so would you recommend?

Yes, I have used Ren-wax on my oil finished rifles for a more durable hard finish that is not shiny.  If the museums use it on their antiques, I figure it has got to be good enough for me.

I'd recommend waiting a good while before waxing just to make sure the finish is completely cured.

I would definitely NOT consider Renaissance Wax (or any wax) to be a "hard finish".  Not by any stretch of the imagination.

I would be hard pressed to say that Renaissance is a superior wax other than that it goes on an buffs out with such ease.  Indeed, if I was in the museum business and didn't want my staff to spend excessive time waxing and polishing, I'd hand them a can of Ren wax.
