R&D of Jaeger Double set triggers
« on: December 22, 2020, 11:48:02 PM »
I have for several years desired to have authentic , high quality triggers for Jaeger Rifles I build. Dennis Daigger introduced me to Morris of Alaska Arms a few months ago and we are proceeding in the development of a double set trigger using CNC machined parts and forged springs. I am hoping to have these ready early next year.

The top photo is of a pair of Zellner Rifles that provided the style for the project.  The second and third images are partial CAD drawings of the project.

How is this trigger adjusted? How many levers or is it a less complex design?
I think i have made perhaps 3 pf a similar pattern and have no interest in any
more.50 years ago I would have been interested and I wish you all possible
success with this project.

Bob, The trigger will have an adjustment screw, pretty much like an other double set trigger and has just two levers. I own an original with multiple levers that is pretty amazing for let off but is too complex to manufacture for a reasonable price.  I will continue to post as the additional parts development continues.

Nothing wrong with that design, but I think you would benefit from a rectangular plate that could be filed to an individual pattern.

Some time ago, maybe in the early 1980's I made up some 2 lever triggers
that had an adjustable latch built into the front trigger and it eleminated
the angle of the front trigger changing no matter how fine the latch was
adjusted. The adjustment screw was built into the front trigger and the only
drawback was that the front trigger had to be held forward while the adjusting
screw was being turned to get the lightest possible release. Most if not all of
these went to Germany.

Why not offer both plate styles to the  customer?

I had envisioned most of the production being used in house for my work and hadn't previously considered leaving the plate rectangular. I will check with the machinist and see if some could be made up that way. If anyone has serious interest in a trigger with a rectangular plate (WIDE) let me know.

I received my Laubauch lock this week and as others have noted it is simply as good as a flintlock can get in quality and craftsmanship. I'm looking forward to having a double set trigger of this quality for the Jaeger that I've started.

I would think that the level of high end detailing on these rifles could incorporate any
type of trigger plate that could be thought of.The extremely limited market will determine
the style and numbers made triggers as well as locks.I have no desire to make triggers
beyond those I am now making and wish all success to any specialty makers.

Trigger in final design stage. I am not getting this PDF to load and will attempt to do do later. Holding fixtures are being created and steel ordered.

This trigger is the reverse of the one posted first.  It has the mainspring bearing on the back end of the hammer trigger.

Here are photos of a similar mechanical setup from my Jaeger.  It allows for a very compact trigger package. This is pinned in the stock through the hole in the front stud.  It makes it look like the tang screw is drilled through to the plate, but the tang screw is a large wood screw.

Nice design Ron

kind regards, heinz
