Douglas barrel stamping question
« on: February 14, 2021, 06:33:36 PM »
I have an old, new stock Douglas barrel I'm thinking about using on a project.  I always heard they were good shooting barrels.  36 cal.  I'm sure the 48 is the twist but what is the "7" stamped on the muzzle?  What does the 'GAA" stand for?

Thanks in advance,
Ken

The GAA stands for Golden Age Arms.  Douglas made barrels for them back in the day.  Don't have a clue about the 7.

Duh!  7 grooves.  That's just too obvious.  I should have seen that.    Thanks for the quick replies!

Ken - it will probably work & shoot just fine. Looks like it's got some meat to it and should make a good
offhand rifle.

Thanks Daryl.  Unfortunately, the Incredible Hulk installed the breech plug back in the 70's.  Snapped right off trying to take it out.  I've never seen one snap like that and that's after soaking in Kroil Oil.  Looks like the project just changed to a .32 cal.

Cheers,
Ken

Just cut it off and rebreech it. Have you ever done that,or is that an option/ Could also file the breech plug flush with barrel  end and drill it out. Challenging, but do able. Good luck. Dave F 8) 8)

Hi Ken I had a frozen plug once , moved it out with a "easy out" bolt remover tool, had to heat it up some with gas and out it came, should of been a dentist,
Take care Steven.

Thanks for the suggestions but I think I will send to someone with the right equipment to take it out or cut off a little and re-breech.

Thanks,
Ken
