Aqua Fortis Procedure
« on: March 01, 2021, 06:23:13 PM »
Hi all,

When staining with Aqua Fortis, what is your procedure? In the past when I have used it, it has stained the rifle furniture and is difficult to get off. This time, I have an engraved rifle and do not want to have to sand the parts.

Should I take off the furniture while staining then re-install before heating? (Yes, I have had Wood warp due to heat in the past)

I leave only inlays and nose caps in place.  Never had problems with warping.  Doesn’t really take that much heat. Use a heat gun for blush.
I use ferric nitrate, so no need to neutralize. Re install hardware when done.
