Rifle at old auction

I manage a museum system that has an 1823 Germanic stone home. In the 1960s, an estate sale went up at the house. Among some of the photos was an old rifle. Can anyone identify? The lady who owned the home ran an antique store out of it. The family that built the home had been in Wytheville, VA since the 1790s.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Jamestown NC rifle. No way to know the maker from the pictures though.
