TVM Fowler kit
« on: April 02, 2021, 05:52:49 AM »
Seeking any reviews of the Tennessee Valley Muzzleloading Fowler Smoothbore kit. I like the lines of this long gun but they dont offer much info about it such as the width of the butt, barrel length, barrel and lock makers, etc. I think I would like to have a nice fowler kit to build on the side. I really appreciate your suggestions!

Jim Chambers offers several types of Fowler kits with the specs your looking for.

Oh thanks. I didn't know he has fowlers as well. He's got an excellent reputation as well, and 3 hours away.

I would take Chambers over any others (until Kibler comes on line anyway). ;)

TVM kits have a reputation of being fairly easy to build compared to most others, Kibler kits being the exception.  Plus you can choose your own lop, barrel, lock, hardware, etc.

Good points, hanshi. Though I could save a hundred dollars with Chambers and just pick it up.  I will be visiting Jim Chamber's shop and get to see their things. (I should keep my credit cards home LOL)

I'm not certain if this is still a fact. Perhaps things have changed, but one thing I took issue with re the TVM fowler was that they used a "Virginia rifle type" buttplate .

Guys, I would like to point out that there are two TVM's. One is Jack Garner's Tennessee Valley Manufacturing and the other is Matt Avance's Tennessee Valley Muzzleloading. Both are reputable companies that offer very similar products. I know that Jack's fowler kits offer octagon to round barrels, maple or walnut stocks, simple trigger, sights, touch hole liner, barrel lugs (two solder on), steel or brass furniture, L&R Queen Ann lock (or you can specify a Chamber's lock), you can get the English style fowler butt plate  and guard or the Virginia butt plate and guard to make a smooth rifle. I am not sure what Matt offer's but I think it would be similar to what Jack offer's.

Jack has his barrels fully inlet except for the tang, he will inlet the lock and trigger if you want him to. He will rough shape the butt stock and leave the forearm square if you want, I have him cut the ram rod groove but not milled to the breech so I can drill my own. Jack is good to work with and will fix your kit up just about any way to want.

I think either one of these companies would to you right.
