I use 1/16 music spring wire and remove the pins with a 1/16 pin punch that measures .050. Plenty of room to take out the pins to clean the barrel every time I shoot. The only way to clean the barrel as far as I'm concerned.

I used to use 5/64 music wire from the hobby shop. Until I discovered the spring wire that is used to support insulation. It’s a bit smaller than 5/64, but my punches work just fine that I used before. One box of wire I bought at Lowe’s will last me the rest of my life. Plus it’s cheap. BJH

1/16 steel welding rods for my tig welder is my choice.

Im not a very good Builder, but  they seem to work good in my attempts.

I use the shank of the 1/16 drill bit itself for my pins.  Those bits are only good for so many drillings anyway! Waste not want not.  ;)

Most of the pins I've seen on originals seem larger than 1/16. That being said use what you like. I like 3/32 music wire. Small bolt cutters is the easiest way to cut them. Music wire will destroy dykes quickly.

Thanks for the tip on small bolt cutters. Never thought of that. I have destroyed more than one set of dykes.

Use the edge of your bench grinder wheel.  Or, use your dremil with a a cut off wheel.  I never cut the stuff with dykes.
