I also bought some Tow from Townsends once that had fire retardant in it. Probably 10 years ago. It would not light with a flint and charcloth. Didn't know that and proceeded to show some young kids how to use flint and steel and failed miserably. Later they said they changed suppliers and the new stuff didn't have the flame retardant.

I made some tow out of jute binder twine. Tried it this past Sunday. Gave it a good dose of 3:1 ballistol, wrapped in a patch puller / worm. Worked extremely well. Mike Bellevue is spot on with this cleaning method.
