1770's Massachusetts Militia Cartridge Box
« on: December 11, 2023, 03:00:24 AM »
I just finished this early massachusetts militia cartridge box  17rd pine block (holes are ¾" wide - plenty for .690 round balls or blank rolls) leather is 6oz with waxed linen thread. The "D" shape of the leather box, dyed black, with relatively narrow straps, is a well documented combo. This one also uses a rolled leather button that is laced on (not sewn). Over the last year, ive really loved getting onto these cartridge boxes. There's a surprising number of surviving examples with a bunch of regional variety.

That’s excellent. What type of stitch is that attaching the close tab?

Very nicely done - did you make the buckle or buy it? I like it.
