Interchangeable Barrel/Hooked Breech

I am contemplating building a larger pistol with both a rifled and smooth bore bbl (Deer,Turkey) that I want to detach from the tang easily. Rice bbl has told me that their bbl dimensions are close enough to drop in.  Looking for ideas, not necessarily a hooked breech, hoping to adapt existing tang.

Better push that out to 20" or so and go with a 20 bore with a bunch of jug choke.

At that point might as well put a stock on it.

Regarding how to fit 2 barrels to a stock with a hooked breech: not particularly difficult on a flintlock. Just get the standing breech, then each barrel gets a standard flint breechplug sawed and filed to make the hook fit the standing breech. Line up your underlugs and you’re good to go.

I’d use one hand on the grip and another on the forearm with a one ounce load of shot, for sure.

Rich, it sounds quite do-able, especially with a hooked breech.  You COULD use a more permanently mounted tang, but would have to file them to the same exact shape and size.

The first - and only - deer I took with a pistol was in panhandle Florida, a .45 cal "Kentucky Pistol" that I built from a kit.  It was doe season, and the shot was at 20 yards.  Never went after turkey with a pistol tho.

Oh, Pedersoli has a kit for their "Bounty" pistol, barrel is 16.375", 45 cal, and I believe 8 or 10 grooves.  Built one for my son about 12 years ago.

A friend had an English cased set that had a 40 caliber plus a 451 long range AND a 58 caliber barrel.
I don't remember the maker but still think it was a great idea.It was a caplock and the 451 had sights
for long range shooting.
