Celebrating the Fourth of July !!
« on: July 07, 2021, 03:51:27 AM »
On the 4th of July, I hauled out the cannon to fire off a few blank rounds on the front lawn for the neighbors.

I have a couple of very short videos but don't know how to post them.... :o

Holy Cow Dave -- and you live in CA -- you must have very nice neighbors (and cops) to get away with that :o

So very cool.  I am surprised it does not have a naval carriage under it.   ;-)   God Bless,   Marc

What load are you using, Dave?  About 1/2 pound of 1F?  Sure is a splendid looking piece.

Used to shoot a cannon in NSSA, but that was years ago.  Fellow who worked at Anacostia had a 5' section of  a 3" 50 cal, with really great rifling.  We would go to A.P. Hill or Ft. Meade, shoot concrete-filled beer cans.  They were steel back then, so yeah, long time ago.
With a pound of cannon powder, we could hit a piece of plywood - sometimes - at 1,000 yards.  I was the sponger.  Had it on a naval carriage, as we were the "landing party" off the Constellation.

Craig,

For the blank charges I was using 6 oz of 1F.  That made a bang big enough to set off car alarms around the neighborhood   ::) :o
