Horn With Pewter Washer For Strap Stop & How It Was Done

  It is about 12 1/4" around the outside curve and 10 tip-to-tip. The Cherry butt is hollowed out about 3/4ths its length and held in place by 4 Iron pins. It has a clear Danish oil finish. The tip is horn (that is its natural color) it is threaded 5/8-11, the stop or collar is Pewter and threaded the same. Color is dye with Brown shoe polish to brighten it up a bit.

 This is what the butt looked like to start, a piece of fire wood.




 This is how the collar was done, a hole drilled in a piece of wood, then Pewter was poured in the hole. Then it was chucked up on the lathe and the hole drilled and tapped, then back on the lathe in a chuck in this little jig. Cut in half and turned to shape. You can see the wood mold at the bottom left of the pic.





 This is the stopper that will go with the horn. The star was trying (In more ways than one) an experiment.
