Hi Peter,
Robby was referring to any rib of material to which the ramrod pipes are attached.  There is no rib under the barrel. There were quite a few Clarks in the trade and some were excellent gun makers. I would say it is from the late 1760s or early 1770s and may have been made for waterfowl hunting rather than upland bird hunting.  Thanks for sharing the photos.

This is a very nice fowling piece.  I love the exaggerated hump in the standing breech.

Judging from the frizzen wear and gaps around the inletting, I don't think the lock is original to the gun.  However, there was a "Clark" in Canada who made and sold similar locks within the last decade or two.
