Bag #42 - Tri-Fold Appalachian Bag
« on: July 16, 2021, 11:12:07 PM »
I had an order for a simple Appalachian bag with few extras.  This is the result.  It is another attempt by me at a "broken in" or "worn in" finish.  I like the way it came out.  It'd be easy to just beat a bag up when finished, but I want a strong, supple bag that will last, so it takes me a bit of work.  Sort of like "aging" a long rifle.  I do the finishing and antiquing before I assemble the bag.

I think this one would look nice with a Hughes or Whitson rifle.

It's 3-4 ounce Veg tanned cowhide, with 4-5 ounce veg tanned straps and a buckskin rolled top edge.  The pocket is bridle leather.  The bag is about 8"x 8".  The buckle is wrought iron.  All hand stitched with 4-ply waxed Irish linen for longevity.

I hope y'all enjoy the photos.  God Bless,   Marc

THAT! Is a good look'n bag, a lot of work but well worth the time and effort. Reminds me of one of those small Va. bags.

That's a good looking bag Marc. Really like the finish and the attention to detail. The dents and dings in the flap really set it off. Nice job!!!

Marc, another very nice piece…as my Dad would often say, you’re a tough cat to clean after…!  Nice work, brother!
