A Bit Outside The Relm Maybe ??? Pt II
« on: August 05, 2021, 04:20:53 PM »
As usual when I start something I did two of there, both a little different. The idea came from the link to Cowen's below. Anyway, I posted one in "Accouterments" a year or so ago and just got around to finishing the other this week.
Hickory handle with 13 Brass tacks, Brass eyes is 15" long. The 4 string braided leather lash is secured at the tips with Rawhide strips. The upper part is also held together with Rawhide but is wrapped around Red wool. The wrist strap is done the same way. Overall it is about 42"

It is a quirt, used by a rider to hurry a horse along.

Hey Tim, that is a nice riding crop. I saw these being made in the leather shop at Williamsburg. I have a handle made up from several years ago so I just might get it out and finish it..
Kind Regards
Frank
