New chisels.
« on: August 06, 2021, 03:53:20 AM »
Well I'm prepping for the arrival of my chambers New England fowler kit. Was outside today building a workbench for it and the mail lady delivered my first couple new tools. Heard alot about these chisel's and I'm like a kid waiting on Christmas for this kit 🤣.

Those are the good ones. Now you need some rasps to go with them. https://www.hand-stitched-rasp-riffler.com/en/

You might need to strop them to get the utmost out of them even when new especially the "V"-gouge which is a bugger to get sharp down in the area where the wings come together.

Woodcraft has a few but the selection is pretty limited. I just get them from France. That way you can get it made to order. I really like the sapphire ones. It takes about a month to arrive. Not bad at all for custom made tools.

Good choice but buying them is like eating peanuts. I currently have over 50 of them . There is always one more gouge that you "need". Don't really need  that many but I use them all and I love them.

Put some shelves on that bench! They are handy and extra weight make it more stable as well. Mine weighs around 80-90#.
I've got some of those same chisels I don't use. I need to get closer to my work for better control.
Good luck with your build!

Get a set of needle rasps as well. They look like the metal cutting types but are for wood and they will be a big help in any rifle or pistol making jobs.
