There is a fine pistol shown in the library. Severa; years ago I phoptographed a pair of Troxel pistols, marvelous workmanship. Not sure if this is 1 of them or a 3rd. Never have seen a Troxel rifle.
The Troxel gunsmiths have proved elusive.

Peter Troxel ( -1807). gunsmith. On 27 March 1798 Michael Baird of Washington County, Maryland, conveyed to Peter Troxel, gunsmith of Bedford County, Pennsylvania, a 73 acre tract of land called Michael's Fancy in Washington County, Maryland, for ,100 Pennsylvania currency [Land Records L-11: 110]. Between 1774 and 1777 Christian Kieffer, blacksmith of Frederick County, Maryland, sold five tracts of land in "Diggs Lott," namely 100 acres; 92 acres called "Chance Medley," 50 acres called "Benjamin's Good Luck;" 50 acres called Resurvey; and 108 acres for ,2450 [Deed Book RP I: 92, dated 13 May 1777]. On 1 September 1807 the dispute between Magadalena, widow of Peter Troxel, and the administrator of the estate of Jacob Troxel was resolved by the Orphan's Court. The court awarded Magdalena 232/12/3 [pounds] and Mary, widow of Jacob Troxel, received ,83/7/6. Jacob was an administrator of Peter Troxel's estate [Frederick County, Maryland, Orphan's Court Proceedings, 1805-08, unpaged]. There was a Peter Traxall of Frederick County, Maryland, whose estate was inventoried in 1766 who may have been the father of the gunsmith, although the executors were Frederick and John T. Troxell [Maryland Court, 90: 272; 25 July 1766].
