Need Help to Identify a Single Set Trigger
« on: August 29, 2021, 01:52:37 AM »
I purchased and installed a single set trigger into a curly ash stocked heavy barrel .40 cal flint gun in 1983. The trigger was independent of the sear trip blade. In other words, the trigger was independent of, and separate from the tripping mechanism. It acted much like my Winchester M-52D trigger...no over travel. Push forward to set and then cock the hammer. My mind thinks Pete Allen was the maker. Does this ring a bell with any of you? I'd like to use it again, but cannot find a SST with the same mechanics. TIA!

I made a few for some German shooters and they called it "Der Kammerstecher"(camming trigger) or Suhlerstecher meaning it was made in Suhl (Zool) and when it was pushed forward to "set" a camming action forced the release bar into place and when the trigger was touched the release bar flew up under spring pressure and the gun went off.The trigger itself did not move away from the finger. To make these work right there must be calculations as to position of PRECISELY fit pins and sear engagement and I am referring to the sear that hold the release bar in the "set" position. It has been  a bit over 40 years since I made these and like locks,no plans to revive them in my shop again.

Buck Ridge Flintlocks may have what you are looking for in a set trigger. Liston sells what he calls a Cane set trigger. He doesn't spell well. Tim

Does the Cane/Cain trigger have no overtravel? Or does the trigger blade follow the sear trip blade?   BTW, THANKS! for the responses!
