Hiking is not just a hobby or a sport for men, and women can have a great experience from it as well.

It is an amazing way to improve your health and fitness, both physical and mental sides. But to push the benefits to the greatest extent, at first, you should pick the right pair of hiking boots for yourself.

Usually, popular brands will make women’s versions for most of their models, so you will see a lot of options to choose from. But not every pair is the same. If you wear boots that can bring enough cushioning or ankle support in high-impact areas, your hours on the trails will bring a lot of suffering. And you deserve better.

Follow our recommendations below, and you will have great walks on your favorite trails.

In the past, I once took a sledge hammer handle ,sawed into half inch square mouldings , shaved it into a octagonal shape and then spun it in a electic drill sanding the out side down with 80 grit sand paper. It worked ! My Daddy was belly achhing all week about losing his spare handle , that was 40 years ago.
Take care Steven.

Small plane, or rasp, or pocket knife...anything that can remove small amounts of wood along the grain in a controlled manner will do, really. A rasp is probably the easiest to use for a beginner - one of those 4-1 rasps from the hardware store, though not my favorite tool these days, will work just fine. What do you have available?

The trick to making a square piece of wood round is to make it octagon first. After it is octagon, you can knock off the corners with a file or by scraping it with the pocketknife, and proceed to round it with file, scraper, sandpaper, etc. A little gizmo like Smylee's (made by another member of this forum, I believe) would be handy for that final scraping to get a perfectly round contour, but isn't a necessity, I don't think.

Haven't tried this but once the squared edges are knocked of this should do the trick:

Dang! Never thought of that. That just looks too simple to NOT work. Typically the fancy, complicated tools, I've tried to make are the one's that DON'T work.

I use a small plane to ruff out the rod and a scraper to finish it up. Don't need anything complicated or made specifically for rod making.
