Does this full cock notch look right?
« on: September 26, 2009, 11:15:19 PM »
This is the first L&R I've owned.  The full cock notch sure looks deep to me.  Given the arc the sear nose will follow, seems like either it or the "lip" on the full cock notch could break.  Does this look right?

Thanks, Ron

Perhaps a tad deep, but you need to stone the notch ledge and sear nose so they are flat and 180 degrees to one another.  You may still have some creep before it releases.  The way it is now, the sear will have to cam the tumbler to overcome the pressure of the mainspring.

Hi Ron,
Forgive me if you already know this, but take a straight edge and line up the center of the tumbler spindle with the outside corner of the full cock notch (the tip of the tooth).  The surface of notch that the sear presses against should line up with that straight line.  I did that on your last photo of the lock and it seems to me that the notch is fine.

If you are going to use a double set trigger, leave it as is. For a single trigger, you will notice some creep before the sear releases the tumbler.
