I’m starting a double percussion gun, 20 bore, rifled right, smooth left. I’m going to use L&R bar style locks. They offer two different hammers, flat, and hawkin style. Which should I use.

Are you making a shooter/hunter or copying an historical relic of a specific maker like Billinghurst?
Use whatever looks good to you and don't worry about the rest of us.

Use the hammer that has the best throw so that it fits the parts you are going to use...very important.

Since it’s just a hunting gun, I may go with the back action locks. I’ve used them on an over under and a couple of swivel guns. Probably the easiest way to go.

When I was going through my photo files, I thought this might give another alternative & not needing drip bars
soldered to the barrel.
